Hiking Reinaknuten

Instead of hiking with the masses to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) we decide to explore one of the many other hiking trails in the area – Reinaknuten.
Reinaknuten is a mountain in Hjelmeland with a peak of 787 meters.
We start the hike at the official parking spot and follow the well marked Reinaknuten trail markings.
Along the trail many stretches offer great views of the mountaineous area around, the lakes and small rivers.
Due to the water bodies the path is muddy at times and you may “sink in” in some places, so having proper boots helps you stay dry.
The final stretch to the summit is steep and rocky and you may need to use your hands to climb up at times. We had perfect weather and no rain, so it wasn’t a big challenge. I can imagine it being a lot more strenuous, though, when doing the hike in winter or harsh conditions.
On the way to the summit we meet only two other hikers and a bunch of sheep, and thus have the peak all to ourselves. It offers great views onto the Tysdalsvatnet lake and on the day of our hike is perfectly windstill.
Out and back I tracked about 11.8 km with 660m in elevation gain.
Below are some impressions.
