Hiking up Mount Ulriken

While being in Bergen we wanted to hike up Mount Ulriken, the highest of the seven mountains surrounding the city.
We park our van at Montana Hostel (85 NOK for 1-day parking) and follow the signs to Ulriken. The trail starts with an uphill gravel road, at the end of which you can choose various different paths to the summit.
We freestyle a bit, following different trails and not choosing the most direct way up.
On a Wednesday in end of June around 1:30pm it is crowded in the beginning, but away from the popular trails we get some alone-time.
Near the top you encounter more people as there is a cable car going up Ulriken.
From the summit down we take the “popular” route which starts with 1333 steps (not counted ;-)). This is faster than the natural rocky terrain but less scenic. If you’re in for a good workout, the steps up/down are a good idea. If you just want to hike, I would recommend choosing one of the other paths.
All in all it’s a pretty accessible hike. Depending on the trail and speed you choose, you can make it a challenging cardio exercise.
I tracked a little over 6 km and an elevation gain of 435 meters.
